Employers beware of an email from Ben King at Iris Accountants. They are scaremongering employers into thinking that emailing payslips can land you in court for breach of data protection. This is totally not true and is a tactic they have employed (pardon the pun) for their latest marketing campaign. They claim it is following a recent court ruling. The court case they refer to is more to do with the likes of Apple & Google storing personal data on the interweb. They have stretched this ruling to an extreme and associated it to emailing payslips so they can scaremonger employers into signing up for their online payslip software. We have confirmed this with Chartered Institute for Payroll Professionals who do not back this campaign from Iris and we have also checked that SAGE have not interpreted this in the same way as Iris, which they have not. Why you should never e-mail payslips….
