November saw the start of the next phase of the RTI rollout which sees HMRC looking to recruit up to 250,000 employers to the Pilot by March 2013. As at the end October 1800 PAYE schemes were reporting in real time so it’s an ambitious leap and if you haven’t yet considered signing up early maybe, the following comments, fed back from employers and being quoted by HMRC will help you to become a little more enthused?
· “We felt it was easy, go for it.”
· “Don’t be frightened to start it.”
· “It was not a problem at all”.
As had been expected, the number of software developers and payroll bureaux requesting to join or extend their earlier numbers on the Pilot has increased and in response to feedback HMRC have made plans to increase their communications now with the wider employer community, using a variety of media channels.
HMRC have already made contact with the very largest of employers i.e. with 5,000 + employments in an attempt to encourage early sign up, where this hasn’t been possible, dates between June 2013 and September 2013 have been arranged with them.
All other employers can expect to start submitting PAYE returns in real time from April 2013
